American cast iron and mahogany two-drawer slide letter press with a turned bulbous cork screw handle, floral decorative pressure plate, fluted decorative side columns and resting on rectangular decorative plinths with the original lions paw feet. Piece was used for pressing books or manuscripts. T. Jervey Estate, Charleston, SC. Early 19th Century. Secondary wood consist of white pine.
