The Linden wood case of grand proportions has a carved realistic perched spread winged eagle with fighting stags within a wooded landscape all amongst a branched garland of oak leaves. The weight-driven movement activating the timekeeping and the hourly sounding cuckoo which emerges from the upper register. Brienz, Early 20th century.
Brienz, in the Bernese Oberland region, Switzerland was remarked upon in Baedeker's Travel Guide, as having a population of 2400 of whom 600 persons were employed as woodcarvers to supply the tourist trade.
